2 Teens Arrested After Racist Symbols Were Spray-Painted Onto Fence In Metro Detroit: Police

Police said the graffiti was spray-painted onto a residential fence outside a home.

STERLING HEIGHTS, MI — Two teens were arrested after spray-painting "bias-motivated phrases" on a residential fence in Sterling Heights early Sunday, according to police.

The incident happened at 12:45 a.m. Sunday at a home on the 11000 block of Shetland Court where officers found spray-painted swastikas and other symbols on a fence, according to police.

Officers responded to the area and found two men who matched the caller's description in a nearby commercial parking lot, according to police.

A 19-year-old man from Idaho and a 19-year-old man from South Carolina were arrested in connection with the incident, according to police.

Officers also recovered spray paint, knives and marijuana from the two men, according to police.

The two men were placed at the Macomb County Jail and were expected to be charged soon, according to police.

"Acts like these have no place in our community," police said. "Sterling Heights is proud to be one of the most diverse and welcoming communities in Michigan and is committed to protecting public safety and building a community where every person feels they belong and are respected and safe."
