Clinton Township Woman, 94, Recalls Career with FBI

Jean Fisher worked briefly for Hoover in D.C. office during World War II.

(Originally published Oct. 11, 2016) CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI — Jean Fisher has two distinct memories of legendary FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover. He was strict and also good looking. Fisher, 94, of Clinton Township, worked for the FBI in Washington D.C. during World War II, and later for the bureau in Detroit. She still has the telegram she received in 1941 offering her a position with the bureau as a stenographer.

“I took all kinds of reports, I typed them and I took shorthand,” Fisher told The Detroit News. “Everyone was always so nice and we worked so hard.”

Last week, Fisher shared memories of her career family members, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Detroit office, David Gelios, and some of his staff.
