Clinton Twp. Man Dies in Car Crash While Wife Watches

William John Rainey III was trying to reattach the boat he was towing Wednesday when the accident happened.

A Clinton Township man died in a fiery crash Wednesday while his wife watched, according to a Macomb Daily report.

William John Rainey III, 29, was towing his boat at about 6:30 p.m., eastbound along Metropolitan Parkway, and the boat broke loose from his 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer, the report stated. His wife also was in the vehicle at the time, the report added.

The couple exited the vehicle to hook up the boat again when a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox crashed into the boat trailer, the report stated. Rainey was pinned by the trailer, and the Equinox burst into flame, the report added

Rainey was pronounced dead at an area hospital, the report stated. Rainey’s wife and the Equinox driver were treated for non-threatening injuries, the report added.

The driver of the Equinox was a 21-year-old Harrison Township man, the report stated.
