Homeowner Watches Burglary While on Vacation: Police
A Macomb County woman used software on her phone to monitor her home while she was away, catching a thief in the act, police said.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI— A New Baltimore man is being held in the Macomb County Jail after his arraignment Tuesday in 41-B District Court in Clinton Township on multiple charges stemming from repeated break-ins at a Harrison Township woman’s home while she was on vacation, police said.
Scott Brown, 32, has been charged with two counts of second-degree home invasion, one count of possession of methamphetamine, one count of possession of marijuana, and one count of resisting and obstructing arrest, according to a news release from the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim called authorities when she received an alert on her cellphone that someone was in her home, police said. She has security cameras in her home, and uses monitoring software when she is away.

The woman told police she was monitoring her home about 7:20 p.m. on Friday when she was able to see clear images of a man inside the residence. A further review of security footage showed the same individual in the home on Thursday as well, and on one of the videos, he could be heard talking to someone else, according to the release. He left through a door, which police believe he left unlocked for entry on the following day.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the residence, and found the window had been damaged and removed from the frame. Inside, they found open dresser drawers and items strewn across the residence, according to the release. No one was inside.
After a digital image from the second break-in was posted on social media, the sheriff’s office began receiving tips about his identity. Detectives went to a New Baltimore residence Monday to arrest the suspect, who fled, but was apprehended after a short foot chase, according to the release.
The sheriff’s office said Brown is currently paroled on a previous home invasion conviction.
Evidence from the Harrison Township break-in was seized during the arrest, police said.
