Man Attacks Store Clerk With Frozen Fish At Macomb Co. Market: Police

An angry customer attacked a store clerk with a piece of frozen fish Sunday at a Macomb County fruit market, prosecutors said.

WARREN, MI — An angry customer attacked a store clerk with a piece of frozen fish Sunday at a Macomb County fruit market, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office.

MD Jobul Hussain was charged with one count of aggravated assault, one-year misdemeanor. He was arraigned in Warren District Court and given a $5,000 personal bond. His next court date has not been scheduled.

Prosecutors said Hussain walked up to the fish counter at the Desi Fruit Market on 9 Mile Road in Warren on Sunday at 7:13 p.m.

The clerk told Hussain the fish counter closed at 7 p.m. because of Ramadan, prosecutors said.

Hussain started arguing with the clerk, and eventually grab a four-pound frozen hilsa and hit the clerk in the head with the fish, prosecutors said.

The clerk was taken to a nearby hospital, where his condition was unknown.

"I never thought I’d have to say this, but if you assault someone with a fish in our county, you will be prosecuted," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said. "A frozen fish is dangerous if you use it to hit someone on the head."
