A wine tasting like NO other

Each course was a “small plate” but in my opinion – the portions were very generous. As each new dish was served our ”wine connoisseur” would tell us why the food was paired with that specific glass of wine. Once he told us what flavors to notice, it was amazing how the wine truly brought out the taste in the meal. At the end of the evening there was an opportunity to purchase any of the wine you tasted – which is noted on the menu above.

At the beginning of the evening a “wine connoisseur” (who was extremely informative) welcomed everyone and explained a bit about the wine we would be tasting. The glasses were lined up and we were instructed to drink from left to right as the courses were served.

It’s no secret that I love myself a tasty glass of wine. Though I’m no wine expert I have been wine tasting a time or two or ten. But the experience I had at It’s a Matter of Taste blew the others out of the water.

This monthly wine tasting is held upstairs at It’s a Matter of Taste: 2323 Union Lake Rd., Commerce Twp, MI 48382. This restaurant is one that I frequent often because it’s very close to my home and has a beautiful ambience. Located right on Union Lake, the view is breathtaking – and so is the food.

A ticket to the wine tasting is $50 and must be purchased in advance by calling or stopping by the restaurant. I feel the price is very reasonable for what you are receiving – five medium servings of wine and five medium-sized courses – plus the educational experience!

There are eight people to a table so we always invite enough friends to fill one up. If you are coordinating with a group, just tell the restaurant who you would like to be seated with when you purchase the ticket. If you are attending with just a few people you will be seated with “strangers” but in my experience they are dear friends by the end of this enjoyable evening.

Each month has a different theme but the vibe is always the same…classy, entertaining, but also educational. I have attended the Italian, Australian and French tastings. The food and wine always corresponds with the theme and is over the top amazing. This event is held upstairs in the restaurant’s gorgeous banquet facility and most people are a little dressed up – think business casual.

This is the perfect event for a birthday celebration, anniversary or girls night out - but regardless of why you go, I guarantee it will be a unique and unforgettable experience!
