As police approached the vehicle that crashed, officers began exchanging gunfire with people in the car, authorities said.

Police then found the driver of the vehicle dead from a gunshot wound and a passenger who was injured in the crash in the vehicle, authorities said.

The injured passenger was taken to a nearby hospital, authorities said.

Officers also found human remains in the vehicle's trunk, authorities said. The remains have not been identified by officials.

Police were still investigating the incident and believe the human remains may be connected to another out-of-state homicide investigation.
