1 Dead, 4 Injured In Crash On Telegraph Rd. In Metro Detroit: Police

Officials said speed and careless driving were factors in the crash.​

ERIE TOWNSHIP, MI — One person was killed and four others were injured in a Monday night crash on Telegraph Road in Monroe County, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Officials said a 37-year-old Monroe man was driving a black 1995 GMC Sierra pickup truck north on Telegraph Road south of Erie Road, in Erie Township.

The pickup truck then crossed over the center line on Telegraph Road and slammed head-on into a gray 2014 Chevrolet Equinox, according to the sheriff's office.

The crash caused the pickup truck to flip onto its right side in the middle of the road, while the Equinox came to a rest in a ditch on the west side of the road, according to the sheriff's office.

Moments later, a 19-year-old Monroe woman driving north on the road in a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee tried avoiding the pickup truck, but she slammed into its front end, according to the sheriff's office.

The crash pushed the truck backwards on its right side, before coming to a rest on the northbound shoulder, while the Jeep came to a controlled stop on the west shoulder of Telegraph Road, according to the sheriff's office.

The 37-year-old driver of the pickup truck was killed in the crash, according to the sheriff's office.

The 19-year-old driver of the Jeep and a passenger in the pickup truck, a 41-year-old Monroe woman, were taken to ProMedica Toledo Hospital, where they were listed in stable condition, according to the sheriff's office.

The driver of the Equinox, a 58-year-old Dearborn man and a passenger, a 21-year-old Toledo woman, were taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Toledo, where they were listed in stable condition, according to the sheriff's office.

Officials said speed and careless driving were factors in the crash.

Officials were still investigating the crash.
