Man Fatally Shot After Trying To Shoot Dearborn Officer In Police Station's Lobby: Cops

A man was fatally shot Sunday inside the Dearborn Police station after trying to shoot a police officer, Dearborn Police said.

DEARBORN, MI — A man was fatally shot Sunday inside the Dearborn Police station after trying to shoot a police officer, police said.

The 33-year-old man walked into the station's lobby with a concealed 9mm handgun and tried firing shots at a police officer behind the front desk around 3:30 p.m., but the gun malfunctioned , police said.

The officer then fired multiple rounds that struck the attempted shooter, who was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died, police said.

No members of the public or officers were injured in the shooting, police said.

Police do not know why the suspect walked into the police lobby and tried shooting an officer, but said there was a history with mental health illness. Police also do not know how the suspect obtained the handgun.
