2 Dead In Wrong-Way Crash On I-75 In Metro Detroit: Police

Police do not know if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

LINCON PARK, MI — Two women were killed in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 75 in Lincoln Park early Saturday morning, according to Michigan State Police.

A 21-year-old woman from Garden City was driving a Chevy Equinox north in the southbound lanes on Interstate 75 near Outer Drive at 4 a.m. when she struck a Jeep head-on, according to Michigan State Police.

A 56-year-old Brownstone woman, who was driving the Jeep was killed in the crash, according to Michigan State Police.

The Garden City woman was taken to a nearby hospital where she died from her injuries, according to Michigan State Police.

Police do not know if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

"Our traffic crash reconstructionist is investigating this crash," Michigan State Police First Lt. Mike Shaw said. "At this time we are not sure why the at fault driver entered the freeway the wrong way. We are waiting on autopsy results to see if impairment was a factor."
