2 Takeaways In Alleged Dearborn Car Burglary Spree: Police

Pair arrested allegedly connected to "dozens of larcenies" in a single crime spree, Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said.

DEARBORN, MI – An alert citizen stopped a pair of alleged car burglars from continuing a crime spree earlier this week, Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said.

The resident called police after watching the two men allegedly break into one car in the 6000 block of Mead before moving on to another about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday called police.

The second vehicle was locked, but that didn’t stop the pair, police said in a news release. After police arrived, they watched the men, who reportedly had mixed success. Some vehicles were locked, but several others weren’t.

The two men — Torki Hassan, 23, and Ali Aldubaily, 19, both of Dearborn — were placed and arrest, and police recovered “numerous articles of stolen property,” according to the release.

Haddad said there are two important takeaways from the incident: Be vigilant about what’s going on in your neighborhood, and lock your vehicles.

"Crime prevention is a collaborative effort with the police and our community,” Haddad said. “These suspects were responsible for dozens of larcenies during this crime spree and I urge citizens to be vigilant in securing their vehicles.

“This crime spree is an example why the ‘Lock it or Lose it’ campaign for educating the public is important,” he said.

Hassan and Albudaily, both charged with larceny from auto and breaking and entering a motor vehicle, were arraigned in 19th District Court before Judge Sam Salamey, who set Hassan’s bond at $25,000/10 percent and Abdubaily’s bond at $20,000/10 percent. Both must wear GPS tethers upon release from jail.

Their probable cause conference is scheduled for April 29, and they’re both due in court May 6 for their preliminary examination.
