Dearborn, MI — The group that oversees the Dearborn Animal Shelter is holding an “I Believe” community rally next week to raise the $2 million needed to turn the former Amtrak station into a new animal adoption and education center.

The nonprofit Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit has already raised $3.7 million to renovate the former train station at 16121 Michigan Ave. The rally, to be held in the parking lot of the train station from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, opens the public phase of the “Raise the Woof” campaign.

“We’re looking to our friends in the community to help take us across the finish line this summer so we can get the building started,” said Elaine Greene, executive director of Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit, which has cared for more than 47,300 abandoned and lost pets over the past 22 years.
