5 Do-Not-Miss Homecoming Activities

You can't do everything at Homecoming. But here's what you should try to make time for.

Cars

Dearbornites won't have to wait till the Woodward Dream Cruise to get their taste of classic cars. Homecoming's Cruisin' Dearborn Car Cruise Friday will showcase rides made between 1933 and 1980, running through the west end and ending at .

Registration starts at 6 p.m. at the and is $10 per car. The cruise–beginning an hour later–will run from Michigan Avenue to Outer Drive to Cherry Hill and end at Ford Field around 7:30 p.m.

Concerts

That city boy born and raised in south Detroit might as well be from Dearborn this weekend. Cover group "Frontiers-The Journey Tribute" will take center stage on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. as one of two headlining acts. Next, enjoy life in the fast lane with the nationally acclaimed "Hotel California-A Salute to the Eagles," which will perform Sunday at 8:30 p.m.

And there are plenty of other acts worth seeing. To name a few: on Friday at 8:30 p.m.; Sunday at 6 p.m.; and on Saturday at 5 p.m.

Contests

Homecoming contests this year include anything from donut eating to applesauce slurping, from hula hooping to shoe kicking and from baseball throwing to egg tossing.

Dearborn Patch is even getting in on the fun, hosting a bubble-gum blowing contest 4 p.m. Sunday. Be sure to stop by to blow some bubbles and get some free Patch swag!

Fund-raisers

The festival will also feature a handful of fund-raising activities hosted by local organizations. Dearborn Rotary is hosting a free Fishing Derby Saturday from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Ford Field Pond.

The Outer Drive Kiwanis Club, meanwhile, is holding the Turbo Turtle Derby Sunday at 4 p.m. Racing turtles can by "adopted" by race goers for $5 each or $20 for five.

Fireworks

Didn't get your fireworks fix during the Fourth of July weekend? Not to fear, as the annual Homecoming fireworks shows will continue this year both Saturday and Sunday at 10 p.m. and promise to be spectacular.
