Dearborn Hampton Inn Shooting: 1 Dead, Shooter Arrested, Police Say
One person was killed after a shooter opened fire Thursday inside a Dearborn hotel, prompting an hours long standoff, police said.

DEARBORN, MI — A gunman was arrested Thursday night at a Dearborn hotel, ending an hours-long standoff with officers who said the man shot a clerk to death and locked himself inside one of the rooms, Michigan State Police said.
Police said the gunman shot a hotel clerk at 1:09 p.m. inside the Hampton Inn hotel in the area of Michigan Avenue and Tenny Street after hotel officials responded to a noise complaint. (Officials noted there was not some kind of dispute over a bill.)
The clerk, only identified as a 55-year-old from Riverview, was taken to a nearby hospital where he died, police said. Police did not identify the shooter, but said he has suffered from mental illness and drug abuse.

After the shooting, the gunman then barricaded himself inside one of the hotel rooms as police urged residents to avoid Michigan Avenue between Military and Monroe streets.
Police peacefully arrested the shooter at 8:30 p.m. after negotiating with the shooter for hours, police said. Police did not say how many shots were fired inside the hotel or what kind of gun the shooter used, other than it was a "long-gun."
