Adoption Fees Reduced for 'Lonely Hearts' Dogs
The Dearborn Animal Shelter has too many large breed dogs and pups to comfortably accommodate.

The Dearborn Animal Shelter has a heartbreaking problem: Too many large-breed puppies and dogs in its care, and not enough of the right-sized kennels to comfortably accommodate them.
Sandra Boulton, a spokeswoman for the shelter, said foster families are an interim solution, but the ultimate goal is to find “forever Valentines” – or homes – for the “Lonely Hearts,” as they’re calling this special group of dogs.
To encourage adoption, fees are being lowered to $50 for the Lonely Hearts on Valentine’s Day – Saturday, Feb. 14.
