Alcohol May Be Factor in Fatal Pedestrian Accident: Police
A 57-year-old Dearborn Heights woman was struck and killed Tuesday morning as she tried to catch a bus.

A pedestrian was struck and killed about 6:15 a.m. Tuesday while crossing Michigan Avenue at Outer Drive, Dearborn police said.
The victim, a 57-year-old Dearborn Heights woman, entered the crosswalk on a red light in an attempt to catch an eastbound bus, which was stopped at the bus stop, police said in a statement.
The driver of the vehicle, a 47-year-old Woodhaven woman, was reportedly eastbound on Michigan and was passing through the intersection on a green light.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police are not releasing her name pending the notification of relatives.
The Dearborn Police Accident Reconstructionist unit is investigating the accident, and it appears that alcohol may have been a factor, according to the statement.

“This is a tragic situation and our condolences go out the families involved,” Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said in the statement. “With that being said, I cannot stress the importance of obeying traffic safety laws, statistics have shown compliance to traffic safety laws will mitigate these types of situations.”
