American Health Care Act Town Hall Sunday In Ypsilanti: How To Reserve A Spot

U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell and several Michigan legislators are having a town hall meeting Sunday to discuss proposed Obamacare replacement.

YPSILANTI, MI — U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell, a Dearborn Democrat, and several Democratic Michigan state representatives are holding a town hall meeting at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 19, to discuss Republicans’ proposed American Health Care Act to replace President Obama’s signature Affordable Care Act.

The town hall is from 4:30-6 p.m. Sunday in the McKenny Hall Ballroom at Eastern Michigan University, 878 W. Cross St., Ypsilanti. David Fair of WEMU radio will moderate the meeting, which will focus on the bill’s effect on the Healthy Michigan program, older Americans, children and working families.

Joining Dingell will be state Reps. Adam Zemke of Dexter, Donna Lasinski of Scio Township, Yousef Rabhi of Ann Arbor and Ronnie Peterson of Ypsilanti. The meeting is free and open to the public.

Marianne Udow-Phillips, executive director of the Center for Healthcare Research and Transformation, also will be in attendance to discuss the proposed legislation’s effect on Michiganders.

As rolled out by the Republican-controlled Congress, older and low-income Americans could face steep premium hikes for coverage. In one example offered by non-partisan analysts, yearly premiums for a 64-year-old earning $26,500 could soar from $1,700 to $14,600 a year, The Washington Post reported.
