“I encourage all to gather to join us at this event,” said Novi resident Donald Conn, M.D., event co-chair, Corewell Health physician, and past president of title sponsor Drs. Harris, Birkhill, Wang, Songe & Associates, PC. “It is a fantastic way to enjoy a fun day together and feel good about your support of important health services for women. As a physician, I see first-hand the impact these funds have on breast cancer diagnosis, treatment and patient wellbeing and am grateful to all that support these initiatives.”

Over the past 33 years, the Women’s Health Care Classic has advanced important women’s programs – from leading-edge medical equipment to scholarships for uninsured and underinsured women in need of breast care services. Specific support is given for transportation to and from appointments, wigs and head coverings, educational materials, facility renovations and updates, endowments for continuing care giver education and a nurse navigator program.

“As a breast cancer survivor, I understand the difficult journey this disease presents,” said Grosse Ile resident Karen Wilson Smithbauer, event co-chair and title sponsor. “I continue to sponsor this event and other women’s health care initiatives so enhancements to diagnostic equipment, treatments, and patient support programs keep moving forward. Doing so allows us to experience the best possible outcomes when faced with difficult situations. We all benefit when health care in our community has the latest tools and programs possible to support our needs.”

A fundraising committee of community leaders helps to make this event a success. In addition to co-chairs Dr. Donald Conn and Karen Wilson Smithbauer, the 2026 committee includes: Christopher DeAngelis, M.D., Kristine Donahue, RN, Jan Fitzgerald, Chris Flores, Nancy Gray, Debbie Guido-Allen, RN, Donna Inch, Mary Kosch, Bethany Parish, and Robert Rosowski, Steve Witkowski, and Bob Zakar.
