DEARBORN, MI — An 18-year-old Dearborn man has been charged after beating his 2-year-old pet dog, who had to be euthanized, according to police.
Singin Kai was charged with second-degree killing/torturing an animal, which carries a maximum seven-year penalty.
He was placed in jail and given a $250,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for June 10.
The incident happened at a Dearborn home in the 24000 block of Chicago Street where officers found a 2-year-old pit bull mix suffering from severe injuries, according to police.
The dog was taken to a veterinary hospital in Allen Park for a broken skull, a broken nasal cavity and a broken jaw, according to police.
Veterinarians at the hospital determined the injuries were too severe and the dog had to euthanized, according to police.
"Our officers were confronted with an extremely disturbing case of animal abuse, and this level of cruelty will not be tolerated in our community," Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin said. "We are committed to thoroughly investigating these incidents and holding those responsible fully accountable under the law."
