2 Juveniles Questioned In Dearborn Playground Fire: Police

DEARBORN, MI — Two juveniles are being questioned in connection with a Thursday playground fire at a Dearborn Elementary School playground, according to police.

The fire happened late Thursday afternoon and involved playground equipment at Nowlin Elementary School, according to police.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and prevented it from spreading to other equipment at the playground, according to police.

There were no injuries in the fire, according to police.

Dearborn Public Schools Interim Communications Director Katie Hetrick said the fire affected a special needs playground.

"While we are saddened by the loss of equipment enjoyed by our students and our community, we are grateful that no one was hurt and that the damage was confined to the play structure," she said. "We will work with our insurance and equipment providers to replace the play structure as soon as possible."

Police said they have identified two juveniles believed to be involved in the incident and that their parents/guardians are cooperating with investigators.

Police are still investigating the incident and asked anyone who witnessed the incident or has additional information to call the Dearborn Police Department at 313-943-2241.

Police said they will turn over their investigation to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office for review and potential charges.
