INKSTER, MI — A woman is in critical condition after she was stabbed Monday inside a metro Detroit dollar store, according to police.
The incident happened at 3:15 p.m. Monday at the Dollar Tree store located near Cherry Hill and Inkster roads in Inkster, according to police.
The 62-year-old woman was shopping inside the store when she was attacked by a 22-year-old man, according to police.
Police said the man stabbed the woman multiple times with a knife that he grabbed from a store shelf.
Witnesses told police the attack appeared to be unprovoked.
Officers arrived at the store and arrested the man in connection with the attack.
Police did not release his name as charges were still pending.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital where she remains in critical condition, according to police.
"This incident is a disturbing act of violence, and we want our residents to know that violence of this nature will not be tolerated in the City of Inkster," Inkster Police Chief Tamika Jenkins said. "Every person should be able to shop, work, and live in our community without fear of becoming the victim of a random act of violence."
Police are still investigating the scene.
