NEW PEDIATRIC CARDIOLOGISTS JOIN DMC CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL OF MICHIGAN

Three new pediatric cardiologists have joined DMC Children’s Hospital of Michigan: Preetha Balakrishnan, M.D.; James Galas, M.D.; and Yamuna Sanil, M.D. 

Physician background:

Balakrishnan completed a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at DMC Children’s Hospital of Michigan. She earned her medical degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. In addition she has published several peer-reviewed journal articles on various pediatric cardiology topics and has been involved in clinical research into the evaluation and treatment of patients with congenital heart defects. Balakrishnan is a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Cardiology and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Galas completed a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at the University of Michigan. He earned his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. He has published peer-reviewed journal articles on pediatric echocardiography and is currently involved in quality improvements in the area of congenital heart disease in the newborn period. Galas is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Society of Echocardiography and the Society of Pediatric Echocardiography.

Sanil completed a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at DMC Children’s Hospital of Michigan. She earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Trivandrum at Kerala University in India. Sanil is a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Cardiology, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Society of Echocardiography.
