Dearborn Couple Faces Child Abuse Charges: Police

DEARBORN, MI — A Dearborn couple was arrested Thursday after officials determined that their child's injuries were the result of physical abuse, Dearborn Police said.

On Thursday, the two parents brought their one-month-old baby to a local pediatrician, who then contacted Dearborn Police after seeing the infant's physical injuries, police said.

Officials took the infant to Children’s Hospital of Michigan, where staff confirmed that the child's injuries were consistent with signs of physical abuse, police said.

As of Sunday, the infant was hospitalized in stable condition, police said.

Amy Taulbee and Murtadha Almeamaar were each charged with first-degree child abuse, police said. Almeamaar was also charged with a habitual offender second offense, police said.

Taulbee was given a cash bond of $100,000 cash and Almeamaar was given a bond of cash $250,000. If they are released from jail, they must wear a GPS tether, police said.

"This is a terrible crime that has impacted everybody involved, from the First Responders on scene, to the Investigators who built the case, to the Medical Professionals who continue to provide care for this poor child," Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin said. "It’s unfathomable to think that a parent could knowingly cause harm to their own child, so I appreciate all of the hard work that has gone into ensuring that those responsible are held accountable."
