UPDATED: 8 Families Homeless in Dearborn Heights Fire

Fire ripped through the attic of a Dearborn Heights apartment complex, leaving eight families without homes, authorities said.

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, MI – Eight families were left homeless but escaped without injury after a fire ripped through the attic of their apartment complex early Friday morning, according to media reports.

Dearborn Heights Fire Chief Dave Brogan told The Detroit News a short in a bathroom fan may have ignited the blaze in the Carriage Hill Apartments, which began around 6 a.m.

The fire was reported at shift change for the Dearborn Heights Fire Department, WXYZ-TV said, so multiple units were able to respond.

Carriage Hill Apartments is located on Cherry Hill Road between Inkster and Beech Daly roads.
