A GoFundMe page was created for the family and anyone interested in donating can do so here. As of Saturday afternoon, the page raised $12,069, short of its $20,000 goal.
Smith was an only child to a very proud mother, according to the page.
"No parent should have to bury a child," the page said. "Let’s come together as a community and take the financial burden off of her. Keep this family in your thoughts and prayers."
