Dearborn Heights Woman Charged In Fatal Shooting Of Boyfriend
Police said the shooting happened inside a Dearborn Heights home during a "verbal altercation" that escalated.
DEARBORN HEIGHTS, MI — A Dearborn Heights woman is now facing a murder charge after her boyfriend, who was shot in the neck earlier this month died at a nearby hospital, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.
Nicholas Stevens, 41, of Dearborn Heights, was shot in the neck and taken to a nearby hospital where he later died, according to police.
Leah Renee Johnson, 30, was charged with second-degree murder and felony firearm in connection with the shooting. She was originally charged with assault with intent to murder and felony firearm.

If convicted on the murder charge, she could spend up to the rest of her life in prison.
Police said Johnson shot her boyfriend during a "verbal altercation" that escalated inside a Dearborn Heights home in the 25100 block of Colgate Street, near Beach Daly and Annapolis streets, at 2:38 a.m. on May 1.

Officers found the man inside a bedroom at the home suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck, according to police.
The couple lived in the home together, according to police.
