Dearborn Man Charged After Woman's Body Found In A Rural Field

NORTHFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI — A Dearborn man is facing charges in connection with the killing of a woman whose body was found mutilated in a rural metro Detroit field last month, according to police.

Officers found the body of Suzan Barbosa-Ferreira, a 42-year-old Brazilian citizen, in a culvert along a dirt road near the 7700 block of Earhart Road in Northfield Township in Washtenaw County on June 30, according to police.

Fareed George Hajjar, 57, was charged with two counts: disinterment and mutilation and also concealing an individual's death. His bond was set at $2 million. His next court date is scheduled for July 25.

Police did not say what relation, if any, Hajjar had to Barbosa-Ferreira, but police did trace her last known location to a Dearborn residence.

"Our officers worked around the clock with Northfield Township to identify, develop a person of interest, and gather sufficient evidence to present the case to the prosecutor’s office," Dearborn Police Commander Timothy McHale said. "While we have obtained some charges in this case, this continues to be an ongoing and very active investigation."

Barbosa-Ferreira was traveling as a tourist and visiting parts of the U.S. - including Michigan, before she was brutally killed, according to a GoFundMe that was created by her sister.
