Dearborn Man Who Allegedly Sped Away with Wife Clinging to Car Faces Multiple Charges

Hassan Sayed, 34, faces multiple charges after alleged assault police chief says is indicative of continuing problems with domestic abuse.

A Dearborn man has been charged with multiple offenses after he allegedly sped away with his wife still clinging to the door of their SUV and dragged her around the block after the two argued Sunday.

Dearborn police said in a news release that Hassan Sayed, 34, argued with his wife inside her vehicle, where the couple’s 2- and 3-year-old children were riding. At Chase Road and Donald Street, she pulled over and asked him to exit the vehicle. A struggle ensued and she exited the vehicle to call police.

Sayed reportedly followed her, assaulted her, took her cell phone and then jumped in the driver’s side. Fearing for the safety of their children, Sayed’s wife, who was not identified, tried to pull Sayed from the vehicle, but he placed it in gear and sped away while she was still hanging onto the door.

Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said the assault demonstrates ongoing problems with domestic violence.

“Crimes of domestic violence are a continuing problem in our society,” Haddad said.”We vigorously investigate every report we receive in an effort to bring the perpetrators to justice. Ironically this type of case accentuates family tragedies during Domestic Violence Awareness month. There are often many silent victims in these families”

Charges against Sayed include the following:

  • Larceny from a person, a 10-year felony
  • Assault with a dangerous weapon/felonious assault
  • Two counts of fourth-degree child abuse
  • Interfering with a crime report

During his arraignment, 19th District Court Judge Mark W. Somers set bond at $200,000 cash/surety. He remained in jail Thursday, and will be required to wear an electronic tether and restrain from contacting the victim if he is released.

His preliminary exam has been set for 9 a.m. on Oct. 24 before Judge Sam Salamey in 19th District Court.

A video of the incident obtained by WXYZ, Channel 7, was captured by surveillance cameras of a nearby business.
