Dearborn Mayor Returns Trash Dumped At Park To Resident's Doorstep

Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud​ also said the resident was hit with a $500 citation.

DEARBORN, MI — Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud is not having it with illegal dumpers.

Hammoud said he was pulled away from his family during dinner Thursday night a little after 9 p.m. when someone decided to dump their trash at a Dearborn park.

After Hammoud identified the illegal dumper, Hammoud said he picked up the trash, drove to the resident's home and placed it on the doorstep with a not saying this will not be tolerated. The resident was also hit with a $500 citation.

"This is unacceptable. This invites rats. This is disrespectful to the whole neighborhood," Hammoud said. "I do not enjoy doing this, but our city deserves better."

The incident comes just two days after Hammoud urged residents to keep parks as clean as their homes in a live social media post from Levagood Park, in Dearborn.

Hammoud went on to call residents not cleaning up after themselves "unacceptable," "lazy" and "disrespectful."
