Dearborn Police Nab Suspect Who Allegedly Tried to Strangle Woman

A news conference is planned Sept. 8 to discuss the case and other investigations resulting in arrests and successful prosecution.

Dearborn police plan to share more details Tuesday about the arrest of a man who allegedly broke into her home last week and attempted to strangle her.

A news conference will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the Dearborn Police Department.

In a statement, police said a woman who lives in the 7900 block of Appoline awoke about 3 a.m. on Aug. 27 to find the man on top of her. She screamed and the man attempted to cover her mouth and strangle her, then fled from th scene on foot.

Evidence recovered at the scene led to the Aug. 28 arrest of Terrance Eugene Simmons, 22, of Detroit, police said. He has been charged with home invasion and assault by strangulation. His probable cause conference in 19th District Court is Sept. 19.

At the news conference, Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad plans to highlight some of the facts surrounding Simmons’ arrest, as well as other arrests that have occurred recently in Dearborn.

In the release, police said more arrests and successful prosecutions are possible due to coordinated efforts between the patrol and investigative divisions, the plain clothes unit, and the crime lab.
