Dearborn Serial Robbery Suspects Linked to Crimes in Livonia, Novi, Detroit: Police

The two men are accused of targeting women and stealing their purses and cell phones in unarmed robberies.

DEARBORN, MI — Two Detroit residents have been charged in a series of unarmed robberies and larcenies in Dearborn between July 31-Aug. 7, police said Friday.

The thefts involved purses and cell phones, according to a news release from the Dearborn Police Department. Victims and witnesses gave police a description of the suspects’ vehicle, which had been stolen days before the crime spree began.

On Aug. 8, police officers monitoring the area where the crimes had occurred found the vehicle and subsequently arrested the suspects, Devaunte Darvell McKinney, 22, and Darion Kejuan McNair, 18.

Each is charged with four counts of unarmed robbery and larceny from a person, and one count of possession of a stolen vehicle. Judge Mark Somers set bond at $100,000/10 percent for each of the men during their arraignment in 19th District Court.

Their probable cause hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Aug. 19, and their preliminary exam is set for Aug. 27.

Both men have pending charges in Novi and Livonia, according to the news release.

“Crime prevention is a collaborative effort with the police and our community,” Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said in the news release. “These suspects were responsible for numerous larcenies and unarmed robberies in Dearborn, Detroit, Livonia, and Novi and I thank the witnesses and victims for cooperating with this investigation.”

Haddad encouraged residents to constantly be aware of their surroundings and report suspicious activity to the police immediately. The police department’s suspicious activity line is (313) 943-3030, and those offering tips may remain anonymous.
