Dearborn Sports Schedule: March 5-11

The basketball post-season continues, while swimmers head to regionals.

For many Dearborn teams, the 2011-12 winter sports season has come to an end–either at the state finals, or in tough losses during district competitions.

After winning their first pre-regional game Feb. 27 against Crestwood (3-1), hockey dropped the second match against University of Detroit Jesuit, 8-3, on Saturday.

Several Dearborn wrestlers went to individual state finals over the weekend, with 's Jamie Jakes coming out fifth in the state ().

and 's gymnastics teams both failed to qualify for finals during regionals on Saturday in Canton.

And Divine Child's boys bowling team placed 13th in the state at state finals on Saturday, while their cheerleading squad to the state championship the same day.

Basketball Post-Season

But for all the school's basketball teams, the fight is still on for regional and state titles.

After , the girls basketball teams from Divine Child and Edsel Ford will be moving on to regionals.

On Tuesday March 6, Edsel takes on Brownstown Woodhaven at Ypsilanti Lincoln, while DC faces Ferndale High at Carleton Airport.

If either team wins–and both are top picks this season–they'll advance to the regional finals on Thursday, March 8. From there, it's the Breslin Center in Lansing for state finals.

For the boys' teams, the post season is just beginning.

In Class A districts, Allen Park plays Crestwood and Edsel Ford plays Lincoln Park on Monday. Both games are at Fordson High. The winner of Crestwood/Allen Park plays Fordson on Wednesday; while the winner of Edsel/Lincoln Park plays Dearborn High the same night.

Class B districts take place at Melvindale High, where Divine Child will play Henry Ford Academy, Allen Park will play Robichaud and the Advanced Technology Academy will play Melvindale on Monday. On Wednesday, the winner of the first game will take on Annapolis, while the ATA/Melvindale winner will play the Allen Park/Robichaud winner.

Winners of the Wednesday games will play for district titles on Friday.

  • Dearborn boys basketball district match against Edsel/Lincoln Park winner at Fordson, 5:30 p.m.
  • Fordson boys basketball district match against Allen Park/Crestwood winner, 7 p.m.

Thursday, March 8

  • Girls basketball regional final, 7 p.m.

Friday, March 9

  • Boys basketball district final at Fordson, 7 p.m.
