Dearborn Police on Saturday arrested a driver who they said struck a teenager and drove away without stopping on the city's southend.

DEARBORN, MI — Dearborn Police on Saturday arrested a driver who they said struck a teenage and drove away without stopping on the city's southend.

Police did not identify the driver but said they impounded the blue Dodge Durango they were looking for in connection to the hit-and-run. The driver’s arraignment is expected to come next week.

A 17-year-old Dearborn High School student was crossing Canterbury near Whittington streets at 5 p.m. when an older model blue Dodge Durango hit the teen, officials said. The teen was taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries and later released, police said.

Surveillance video showed neighbors rush to help the teen girl who was laying motionless in the street after the Durango hit her. One of the neighbors tried stopping the Durango as it took off down the street.

"I'd like to thank the Detroit Police for their assistance in this investigation," Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin said. "With their help and the community's assistance, we were able to identify the driver and take her into custody."
