Duplex Neighbor Lone Suspect in TV Theft

A Dearborn resident told police he thinks the man behind his TV's disappearance lives in the upper level of his duplex. All information was provided by the Dearborn Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Under your own roof is the last place most people suspect burglars to be. But one Dearborn victim thinks just that.

A thief broke into a Dearborn man’s lower level duplex apartment on the 6800 block of Calhoun Street July 29 and stole a 50-inch Samsung television, according to a police report. The TV was valued at $800.

The victim told responding officers that he and his wife watched television in their family room until 2 a.m. that morning, police said. The couple then went to sleep in their bedroom, waking up at 9 a.m. to find their TV missing.

This wasn’t the first time property went missing from the apartment, the victim told police. He added that he thinks his neighbor in the upper level of the duplex is the culprit behind the thefts.

The neighbor moved in around four months ago, doesn’t have a job and frequently asks the victim for money, according to the report.

The upper level duplex resident is Dearborn police’s only suspect at this time, the report said. When responding officers questioned him, he denied any knowledge of the incident. The suspect also said he was up late and heard someone walking up and down the duplex’s stairs at around 12:30 a.m. that morning.
