Ex-Wayne County Treasurer Mail Clerk Faces Criminal Sex Charges

The former worker inappropriately touched female co-workers on three occasions, the prosecutor's office said.

Updated. DETROIT, MI — A former mail clerk in the Wayne County Treasurer’s Office is facing three misdemeanor criminal sexual conduct charges for inappropriate contact with female co-workers, the county prosecutor’s office said in a news release Thursday

Dennis Patterson, 50, of Detroit, has already been arraigned on one of the charges and was arraigned on the other two Thursday morning in 36th District Court. He was employed by the treasurer’s office until June 20, two days after the last of three alleged incidents.

One June 18, when treasurer’s office employees were at an event for senior citizens in the Nankin Mills area of Hines Park, Patterson is accused of inappropriately touching a 45-year-old female co-worker while they were seated at an information booth. The woman reported the incident to her supervisor, according to the news release.

The other two charges stem from incidents reported on April 20 of this year and in September 2015.

In the incident this spring, a 44-year-old employee of the treasurer’s office reported to her supervisor that as she was walking down the hallway of the treasurer’s office at 400 Monroe St. in Detroit when Patterson allegedly touched her in an inappropriate manner.

In September, a 49-year-old worker at the Monroe Street office told her supervisor that Patterson had inappropriately touched her, according to the release.

Patterson was arraigned on the June charge Wednesday in 18th District Court in Westland. Bond was set at $50,000 cash/surety, and he is due back in court at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 11 for his probable cause hearing before Judge Sandra Cicerelli. His preliminary examination before Judge Mark McConnell is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 18.

Bond was set at $5,000/10 percent on each of the charges stemming from alleged incidents in the treasurer's office on Monroe Street. He has probable cause hearings on Aug. 11 and preliminary examinations on Aug. 18, both before 36th District Court Judge Kenneth King.

Fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct charges have been filed in each of the incidents. The charge is a two-year misdemeanor.
