Flag Burning Part of Dearborn's Flag Day Commemoration

Flag Day 2015 marks the 238th anniversary of the adoption of the nation's flag by the Continental Congress in the year 1777.

Per tradition, Dearborn’s annual June 14 Flag Day commemoration will include a dignified ceremony to burn tattered American flags, in keeping with American Legion protocols for the disposal of flags that are no longer fit for public display.

The City of Dearborn’s annual ceremony takes place at 6 p.m.at Ford Field Park on Cherry Hill west of Brady.

Members of the public may drop off tattered flags for burning at the front kiosk of the Dearborn Administrative Center, 16901 Michigan Ave., until Friday, June 12. The public can also drop off tattered flags at the ceremony site beginning at 5:30 p.m. on June 14.

The ceremony is co-sponsored the Dearborn Allied War Veterans Council.

The Dearborn Fire Department will be on hand to ensure a safe burning environment.
