Ford Recalls 313,000 Vehicles for Headlight Issues

About 4,700 other vehicles are being recalled for assorted safety issues.

DEARBORN, MI – Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than 317,000 vehicles, most of them to correct lighting issues that resulted in 11 accidents, the Dearborn-based automaker said Tuesday.

In the largest of the three recalls, for 313,000 older Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis vehicles for model years 2003 to 2005, will replace the lighting control module. Ford said the module’s solder joints could crack and interrupt the power to headlights, increasing the risk of a night-time crash.

Dealers will replace the lighting control module.

Ford said it isn’t aware of any accidents or injuries related to the defect.

Air-brake chambers will be replaced on 177 F-650 and F-750 model year trucks, the automaker said. A problem with air brake jounce hoses could cause the parking brake to suddenly engage or result in diminished braking performance.

No accidents or injuries have been associated with the defect, Ford said.

Safety belts may not be properly secured on 3,200 F-150 SuperCrew vehicles and may not adequately restrain occupants, Ford said.
