DEARBORN, MI — State Rep. and Dearborn Mayor-elect Abdullah Hammoud weighed in on a set of bills to invest state funding in local cities and school districts.
The two house-bill package, 5583 and 5584, introduced Monday by state Rep. Julie Brixie (D-Meridian Township) and state Rep. Amos O’Neal (D-Saginaw). It would invest about $500 million of the state’s federal funding under the American Rescue Plan and the bipartisan infrastructure bill in the lowest-funded cities, villages, townships, counties and school districts in the state.
Hammond said the bills were a "game changer" that help the City of Dearborn and its schools.

"The state has been closing the gap in per-pupil education funding between the lowest and highest funded school districts, but we still have to build and maintain our school buildings and the technology in our classrooms with local property taxes," Hammond said. "This legislation will ensure every school district can afford to build and maintain their schools and make sure they have the technology our students need."
