Big Plays Haunt Edsel Ford in Loss to Robichaud

Five touchdowns of more than 40 yards were enough to propel Robichaud over host on Friday night, 48-28, in a contest that was eventually called with less than 2 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter because the lights at the stadium overheated and went out.

Before the stadium went dark, the Thunderbirds were able to keep the game close through the first three quarters—the squads were knotted at 14-14 heading into the final 12 minutes of play.

The Bulldogs, however, exploded for 34 points in the closing quarter, thanks to a 66-yard pass from Chris Davis to Reggie Thomas in the opening minute of the quarter that seemed to spark the explosion.

Trying to keep pace, Edsel answered with a scoring drive of its own, capped off by a 10-yard scamper by sophomore Tommy Hailey.

Cody Cowart's extra point actually put the T-Birds up, 21-20, with just over 11 minutes remaining in the game.

On the following possession, however, Robichaud's Cedric Patterson ran a sweep to the outside and turned the corner. Ninety-yards later he was in the end zone. 

Robichaud grabbed the lead with that score, 26-21, and never looked back, adding another three touchdowns to the tally before the game was called.

Hailey tacked on his third touchdown run of the day in the fourth quarter, but it was simply not enough to reel in a Bulldogs team that was nothing short of explosive on offense.

Jihad Baydoun also scored for Edsel, taking the ball in from 6 yards out in the opening quarter.

The loss drops the T-Birds to 0-2 on the season with a matchup with Belleville on the horizon Sept. 9.

The battle with Belleville officially opens play for Edsel Ford in the Western Wayne Athletic Conference's Blue Division.
