Korean War Vets to be Honored on 63rd Anniversary of Armistice

More than 36,000 Americans were killed, 103,000 were wounded and 8,127 were listed as missing in action in America's "forgotten war."

Dearborn, MI — Korean War veterans will be honored in a solemn ceremony in Dearborn on Wednesday, July 27, the 63rd anniversary of the armistice of the Korean War.

The ceremony begins 9 a.m. at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center’s Korean War Living Memorial, 15801 Michigan Ave.



A wreath will be placed at the memorial by Korean War veterans to pay respect to the 26 men from Dearborn who died during the war, as well as all those who served, according to a news release.

Korean War veterans, their families and the public are invited to attend. Following the tribute, refreshments will be served at the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 51 Hall, 6117 Chase Road in Dearborn.

The Korean War, known as the "Forgotten War," took place June 1950 to July 1953. According to most estimates, more than 36,000 Americans died during the war, 103,000 were wounded, and 8,177 were listed as missing in action. Over 5 million Americans served in the war.

Dedicated in 2001, Dearborn’s memorial includes three Red Baron crabapple trees and a granite rock with a commemorative plate.
