Man Arrested In Violent Dearborn Attack, Sexual Assault: Police

Police said a man broke into a Dearborn home Sunday and severely beat and sexually assaulted two elderly women.

DEARBORN, MI — A man was arrested in connection with a home invasion and sexual assault that happened inside a Dearborn home Sunday, police said Monday.

Police said a man broke into a home near Southfield Road and Outer Drive on Sunday at roughly 2 p.m. and severely beat and sexually assaulted two elderly women.

The two elderly women were taken to a hospital where they were recovering from injuries they sustained in the attack, police said.

Investigators used evidence and reports from eyewitnesses in the neighborhood to track down the suspected attacker at a nearby motel where officers arrested him in connection with the attack, police said.

Police did not identify the man as charges were pending from the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police believe the man acted alone and that there is no further danger to the community. More information will be released at a later time, police said.

"The crime committed in our community over the weekend is shocking and horrifying. I applaud and thank the community members who assisted our officers in swiftly bringing the perpetrator to justice and protected our residents from any further threat. As our investigation continues, our thoughts remain with the victims of this incident, their families, and their neighbors as they heal and recover from this trauma," Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin said.
