Man Charged In Connection To Fatal Dearborn Crash: Police
A man is facing charges after police said he fled a traffic stop on Monday and crashed into an SUV in Dearborn, killing an innocent driver.
DEARBORN, MI — A man is facing charges after police said he fled a traffic stop on Monday and crashed into an SUV in Dearborn, killing an innocent driver.
Chance Robert Murphy, 29, was charged with second degree homicide, first degree fleeing and eluding, reckless driving causing death and resisting and opposing a police officer, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.
Murphy was placed in the Wayne County Jail on a $500,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 20, 2023.

A Wayne County Sheriff’s Department officer tried stopping Murphy in a Ford Econoline van on Monday for a traffic violation on eastbound on Michigan Avenue at South Gully Road at 8:40 a.m., police said.
Instead of pulling over, Murphy sped away and ran a red light at the intersection, hitting an SUV, killing the driver, a 61-year-old woman from Lincoln Park, police said.

Murphy then got out of his car and ran away from police, who eventually caught him moments later, police said. He was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for minor injuries he sustained in the crash, police said.
