Man Killed After Flying Tire Strikes Car On I-94 In Metro Detroit: MSP

A 49-year-old Dearborn Heights man was killed in the crash, according to Michigan State Police.

ANN ARBOR TOWNSHIP, MI — A driver was killed Tuesday after a detached tire struck his car while driving on Interstate 94 in Ann Arbor Township, according to Michigan State Police.

Troopers said a Dodge Journey was moving west on Interstate 94 near State Street at 4 p.m. when the SUV's tire came off and flew over the median wall and struck a Chevrolet Malibu on the freeway's eastbound lanes.

The wheel struck the Malibu on the driver's side of the windshield and roof, causing the roof to cave in and strike the driver in the head, according to police.

The 49-year-old Dearborn Heights man, who was driving the Malibu, was killed in the crash, according to police.

Police do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
