Man Locks Himself Inside Dearborn Home With Knife, Police On Scene

As of Tuesday afternoon, officials were still speaking to the man, who is alone in the home, according to police.​​

UPDATE: Police said Wednesday morning the situation was peacefully resolved and the man was taken to a nearby hospital for mental health treatment.

DEARBORN, MI — Police are working a scene of a person experiencing a mental health crisis Tuesday.

Officers responded to a home on the 3000 block of Williams Street where a 33-year-old man was experiencing a mental health crisis and locked himself inside the home with a knife, according to police.

Officers immediately secured the area and requested additional mental health resources to respond to the scene, according to police.

Nearby Whitmore-Bolles Elementary School was temporarily placed on a soft lockdown due to the ongoing incident and has since resumed operations.

Police said there are no threats to the public.

"Our crisis-trained officers and mental health resource personnel continue to speak with this individual to safely resolve this situation. Our officers worked quickly to secure the area around the home and we have determined no threats to public safety during this ongoing situation," Commander Timothy McHale said.
