Man Shoots At Undercover Dearborn Officer, 2 Arrested: Police
The officer was not injured in the shooting. Police were watching a car in Detroit that was stolen out of Dearborn, police said.
DETROIT — Two people were arrested Monday after a shooter opened fire at an undercover Dearborn Police officer in Detroit, police said.
Dearborn Police followed a car that was stolen out of the city to a location near Martin Luther King boulevard and Roosevelt Street in Detroit at 6 a.m., police said.
While officers were watching the car, a man approached the officer in the unmarked police car and fired multiple rounds from a rifle into the car, police said.

At least one round went through the windshield and struck the hood of the officer’s sweatshirt, but the officer was not harmed in the shooting, police said.
The officer did not fire back, as the shooter ran after firing the shots, police said.

Two people were arrested after the shooting, police said.
"Losing a vehicle to theft can be devastating for a household and to residents’ ability to provide for their families," Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin said. "This is why our officers go to extraordinary lengths to resolve these crimes, despite grave danger to themselves."
"In this case, our investigative officers instantaneously identified a vehicle stolen from our city and took direct gunfire in the process of holding the perpetrators accountable. We are incredibly fortunate this did not end in tragedy," he added. "I applaud our officers for excellent police work, and I ask the public to pray for their continued safety in protecting the lives and livelihoods of Dearborn residents."
Police were still investigating the shooting.
