MDOT to Spend $10.4M Replacing Pedestrian Bridges
Four bridges are scheduled for replacement over the course of the next couple years.
The Michigan Department of Transportation is aiming to finish construction of the $2.9 million Cathedral Street pedestrian bridge by early October, reports The Detroit Free Press. The bridge was destroyed when a truck travelling on M-39 driver slammed into it in September of 2014.
The completion of the Cathedral Street Bridge will mark the first in a series of four planned replacement pedestrian bridge locations. The other three include a $2.3 million Verne Ave. Bridge replacement, a $2.6 million Sawyer St. Bridge replacement and a $2.6 million Vassar St. Bridge replacement. Work is scheduled to begin on all three sometime near the spring of 2017.
