Naked Man Viciously Attacked by Dog Pack Loses Hands, Feet

Police don't know why the man was naked, or what he was doing at the property, where a dozen pit bulls were kept.

A naked man police rescued from a pack pit bulls lost both hands and feet in the vicious attack late Thursday on Detroit’s east side, according to news reports.

Police fired several shots and killed one of the dogs before luring the others away from the man in the incident, the Detroit Free Press and WWJ/CBS Detroit report.

“When we found the victim he was lying in a yard, completely naked, being attacked by several pit bulls,” Detroit Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Woody said, “and our officers had to try to corral the pit bulls.”

Woody said the man’s life was in jeopardy and “that’s why they had to do what they had to do.” The dogs were “pretty vicious,” he said, and the victim could barely speak after he was rescued.

The dogs, a dozen in all and all of them pit bulls, had escaped from a house on Pennsylvania Street, between East Warren and Mack avenues. The homeowner wasn’t home at the time of the attack, but he has since come forward. It doesn’t appear he was involved in dog fighting, WWJ/CBS Detroit said.

Police said they don’t know why the approximately 40- to 50-year-old unnamed victim was on the property, why he was unclothed or what provoked the attack. He remained in critical condition at a Detroit hospital on Friday afternoon.

“I really don’t want to draw any speculation on the dogs, the homeowner or the man in the yard,” Woody said.

He also declined to comment on who reported the attack.
