Dearborn Police Ask Residents to Take a Night Out on Crime

Dearborn residents are being encouraged to spend an evening at the on Aug. 7 as part of the National Night Out on Crime.

The event—which will take place from 5-8 p.m.—is held each year in an effort to strengthen ties between residents and their local law enforcement, according to Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad.

“Dearborn is a prime example of a community that works in partnership with its police department and the private sector," Haddad said in a statement. "Together these partnerships have made real strides in crime prevention and quality of life issues.”

Free food, activities, displays and information will be available, and residents can spend time getting to know members of different law enforcement agencies from around the area. It might be the only night residents can use a bounce house and have a hands-on experience with a bomb squad in the same night.

The event, which is co-sponsored by Target Stores, is held across the nation to emphasize safe practices in communities.

And when attendees head home, Haddad is encouraging them–and all Dearborn residents–to leave their porch lights on during the night of Aug. 7.
