New driver service provides independence for seniors, peace of mind for loved ones

DriverOnCall is a 24/7, year-round driver service tailored to the needs of seniors who have a car but cannot or prefer not to drive.

DriverOnCall expands to multiple Michigan markets

DETROIT, Mich. - A new driver service that provides independence for seniors and peace of mind for their loved ones has been expanded throughout Michigan from the Greater Lansing area where it was first launched in 2014.

DriverOnCall provides a personal driver to chauffeur clients in their own vehicles. The service is tailored to the needs of seniors and costs $25 per hour with a minimum of one hour per reservation. It is for those who have a car but are no longer able to drive or prefer not to drive for whatever reason, such as inclement weather or after dark.

Reservations are available at 888-713-7483. Reservations made 24 hours in advance are recommended.

“When one’s independence is threatened due to illness or age, it usually affects the entire family,” said Jose Ramirez, DriverOnCall chairman. “The safety and comfort of our clients and the peace of mind for our clients and their loved ones are our top priorities. The adult children of our clients are as appreciative of the service as our clients.”

The 24/7, year-round service that includes holidays provides door-to-door assistance throughout each trip, which can include multiple stops. Drivers are also available to run errands for clients while they are at appointments or other commitments.

Ramirez noted a loyal DriverOnCall customer who has been using the service since December 2014. Beatrice Linder, a vibrant and vigorous 91-year-old mother, grandmother and great-grandmother in East Lansing, is still on the go despite surgery that left her unable to drive at night. The service was even more important to her after a heart attack required her to attend weekly cardio therapy appointments.

“My kids wanted to help, but you don’t want to bother your kids every day, and I had hair and nail appointments, shopping and other things I had to get done,” she said.

Linder leads an active life, spending time with friends for dinners, movies, lectures and other events, and visiting friends and family in Flint and West Bloomfield.

“DriverOnCall is the solution heralded by my entire family,” she said. “It gives me freedom and allows me to continue to do what I love. I don’t clean, I don’t cook and when I need a ride, I pick up the phone and that is done for me.

“Whatever life is going to be, it is going to be the quality and standard I like, and that would not be possible without DriverOnCall.”

DriverOnCall insures its drivers and the clients’ cars, and intensively vets the drivers.
