Police: Man Guns Down Neighbor in Long Feud

Neighbor: "I wouldn't take it that far as to shoot each other… But if he pushed you far enough, you're gonna get it."

A Dearborn Heights man was expected to be arraigned on murder charges Thursday after police said he gunned down a next-door neighbor with whom he’d had a long-running feud.

Police were called to the 6467 block of Fairwood Drive about 7 p.m. Wednesday by a neighbor who heard multiple shots, WWJ/CBS Detroit reports.

The two men, who neighbors said hadn’t gotten along for some time, are both in their 60s. Neither has been identified.

“From what I’ve heard, these two guys had been at it for a couple years,” Kat Chaalan, who lives nearby, told WWJ. “... They’d just had enough, maybe. I wouldn’t take it that far as to shoot each other… But if he pushed you far enough, you’re gonna get it.”

The shooting occurred in a diverse neighborhood where residents know and normally get along well with each other, Chaalan said.

“You know, we don’t have any problems with anybody,” Chaalan said. “You have different cultures, different religions here and we all get along perfectly. We have American, Arabic, Mexican and Italian. And, you know, it’s not about where you come from, it’s about you guys getting along and being nice to each other…and that’s all it’s about. ”
